Built Mobile App
Small businesses keep the economy moving, but many founders across Africa still struggle with basic things like tracking cash flow or keeping clean records. Built exists to fix that. It gives small business owners simple digital tools to run and grow their businesses without the headache.
When I took over the Built mobile app, it was clear the product needed more than small improvements. It worked, but it wasn’t built to scale or feel intuitive for everyday users. So we rebuilt it from scratch, focusing on speed, clarity, and real-world business needs.
The new app became more than an accounting tool. It turned into a full financial hub for small businesses. Users can send and receive money with an in-app wallet, track inventory and sales, manage proper accounting records, run a built-in POS, and create invoices, bills, and quotations directly from their phones.
Throughout the rebuild, we spent time talking to actual business owners. Their feedback shaped the product. We simplified flows, cleaned up the UI, and removed friction so even non-technical users could manage their finances without stress.
The results spoke for themselves. Installs grew from about 700 to over 50,000, driven by a better experience and real value to users. More importantly, business owners finally had a tool they could rely on to understand their numbers and make smarter decisions.
Working on Built was personally rewarding. It was a reminder that good software, when built with real people in mind, can genuinely improve lives. And this still feels like just the beginning.
