Love Nest Dating App

Dating as a single parent comes with unique challenges. Between juggling kids, work, and life, finding someone who truly understands that reality isn't easy. Love Nest was built specifically for this community—a dating platform designed from the ground up for single parents seeking authentic, meaningful connections.

I built the entire backend infrastructure for Love Nest, working with Lyqx Agency who brought me in for the project. The mobile apps (iOS and Android) were handled separately, but the server-side architecture powering the entire experience was my responsibility.

The technical foundation is built on Node.js with PostgreSQL for reliable data persistence and Redis for caching and session management. Real-time messaging was critical for a dating app, so I implemented WebSocket connections to ensure instant message delivery, typing indicators, and presence updates across the platform.

One of the more interesting features is the intelligent matching system. Unlike generic dating apps that focus primarily on looks or location, Love Nest matches users based on parenting styles, shared values, and life plans. Building the algorithm to weight these factors appropriately while still keeping the matching relevant and engaging required careful consideration of how single parents actually approach dating.

The platform also includes a unique "warm attentions" system that sets it apart from competitors. Users can send real physical gifts—flowers, chocolates, books, tea—to matches through approved partner networks, all without exchanging personal addresses. The backend handles the entire flow: gift selection, payment processing, partner fulfillment coordination, and privacy protection. It's designed to encourage genuine gestures in a world of empty swipes.

Security and privacy were paramount given the sensitive nature of dating data, especially for a community that includes children in the picture. I implemented strict data protection measures, easy reporting and blocking systems, and zero-tolerance enforcement mechanisms for harassment.

The app also powers in-person events—wine tastings, brunches, concerts—organized specifically for single parents. The backend manages event creation, participant limits, RSVPs, and even coordination with childcare services so parents can actually attend.

Love Nest launched with a clear mission: break the isolation many single parents feel and foster sincere, lasting connections. Building the technology to support that mission—while keeping the experience fast, reliable, and secure—was a project I'm proud to have been part of.
